彩虹小馬玩具推出的前一年，孩之寶先在電視上播出卡通節目，觀眾群是2～6歲小女孩，發展至今，共有4個動畫版本，其中最新被稱為G4的第四代動畫版本「彩虹小馬：友誼是魔術」，由曾參與「飛天小女警」（Powerpuff Girls）和「親親麻吉」（Fosters Home For Imaginary Friends）電視卡通影集製作的洛倫福斯特（Lauren Faust）主導，擔任視覺開發、創意總監、監製等多職，自2010年10月在美國有線頻道The Hub播出以來造成轟動，還產生一個歐美特殊的次文化。
